Cutting-Edge Precision: Inside the World of AMETEK EMC's Electro-Surgical Instruments

Electrosurgical instruments are medical devices that use high-frequency electrical energy to perform surgical procedures. They are commonly used in a variety of surgical specialties, including plastic surgery, gynecology, urology, and general surgery. These instruments can be used to cut, coagulate, or remove tissue with precision and control, allowing for minimally invasive procedures with less bleeding and faster recovery times.

The global electro-surgical instruments medical devices market size was valued at approximately USD 5.4 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow to USD 8 billion by 2027 at a CAGR of 6.6% from 2022 to 2027.

The growth in the market can be attributed to factors such as increasing patient preference for minimally invasive procedures, increased healthcare expenditure, and widespread patient awareness about the new and technologically advanced options.

AMETEK Engineered Medical Components (EMC) is a formidable player in the electro-surgical instrument medical devices market with its TSE and Avicenna Business Units.

AMETEK EMC supports customers in this market as a provider of critical, customized interconnect and cable solutions as well as precision laser processed assemblies. This includes ENT and plastic surgery solutions such as:

  • Laser-welded tissue sealers
  • Signal cables for patient interface measurement
  • RF power cables
  • Laser cut shafts
  • Laser-ablated wires and plastic tubing

With a focus on quality, safety, and innovation, AMETEK EMC's electro-surgical capabilities are well-positioned to continue to lead to market growth in the future.

Let’s Have A Closer Look At The Solutions AMETEK EMC offers to the electrosurgical market

AMETEK EMC is involved with manufacturing components for tools like Shears, jaw sealers, tissue sealers, etc that are safe to go inside the human body, interconnect to connect the handpiece to the electrosurgical generators at TSE. TSE in collaboration with our customers also gets involved with manufacturing the complete box builds for energy generators (like RF) depending on the client's needs.

We’re also involved with manufacturing cables and laser welding for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and plastic surgery procedures. Also, we manufacture flexible tubes for electrosurgical instruments that facilitate improved maneuverability and access to hard-to-reach areas during surgical procedures.

In collaboration with our customers, we manufacture our components to be strong enough to remove tough, fibrous tissue while minimizing the risk of damage to the patient internally.

We’re also involved with manufacturing other flexible cables, for another vascular tool.  These cables are flexible, bendable components that connect the imaging capitol to the light source and control system. We make the cable with high-quality materials to ensure that they are strong, durable, and endure the demands of surgical procedures. These cables are typically made from biomaterials such as platinum and 316L stainless steel for their radio-opaque and non-reactive properties. These biomaterials also give them strength & flexibility to hold up during the arduous operational conditions.

Last but not the least, we also manufacture Signal cables for patient interface measurement. These cables are used to connect medical devices such as sensors, electrodes, or other monitoring equipment to patient monitoring systems. These cables play an important role in avoiding disconnections during surgeries, providing data on heart rate, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure, and collecting physiological parameters.

Additionally, at our laser processing facilities, we are involved with manufacturing Nitinol tubes for the handpieces in ophthalmologic procedures. In capsulotomy handpieces, a nickel-titanium tube is used to deliver energy to the eye, often in the form of heat that creates an opening in the surface for lens extraction and replacement.

And, since the flexibility of the tube allows for collapse and shape recovery during the procedure, the incision for the instrument is quite small.  We make sure to use our innovative engineering experience to make these delicate components. The use of nickel titanium alloy in these components allows for flexibility, shape memory, and control during the procedure. AMETEK EMC is a global contract manufacturer that collaborates with our Medical OEM customers in the research and production of electrosurgical devices.

AMETEK EMC delivers cutting-edge products with a strong emphasis on innovation that is created to fulfill the highest requirements of performance, safety, and reliability.
